Agile Notes (No. 45)
86 subscribers. :) Should we do a giveaway at 100 subscribers??? I am DESPERATE for someone to drop the FIRST comment.
I’m looking at you. :) Maybe a copy of Coaching Agile Teams???? Let me know what you think about a giveaway and how we should do it in the comments. This week, we continue with Collaboration Explained by Jean Tabaka. We are staying in Chapter 4: What Are Collaborative Teams?
Let’s put Agile aside for a minute. The picture/page grab above applies to ANY team to which you belong. When I read this chart I think of teams that I played on in my younger days. I think of teams that I managed (I really don’t like that term) before I knew ANYTHING about Agile and I was just running from the Tom Peters MBWA (management by walking around) playbook. I think of teams that I have interacted with as either a customer or one providing work inputs.
This list can serve as a rubric or maturity model to gauge the performance level of your team. Remember, high performing teams produce RESULTS. The higher the performance level, the greater the RESULTS.
I almost think you could/should start in the middle of this list, get the team to believe they can do anything. Get them to commit to TEAM success. Then you can start spreading out into other areas.
I really like #6 - “They AGGRESSIVELY engage in participatory decision making…” Maybe that is the place to start. Overcome the authoritarian/bullying decisions first and the rest will follow. I don’t know. What do you think?
